This is the way I build many of my box guitars. I like a high bridge and a back angle down on the neck. I glue a brace under the neck so it will make the neck very strong. It extends from the tail out to the heel. I add a fretboard or fingerboard of hardwood for added strength. Also then I can cut about 3/8 inch off the top of the neck through so the body’s lid will not bottom out on the neck through. I can then put a flat surface mount pickup (like a Wicked Bucker) easily under the strings in the neck position.

  • Thanks Jerry. This works so well. Might seem heavy handed but I seldom have bowing or jack knifing of the neck. I will add, I do my best to use quarter sawn wood for the neck. I like working lighter wood like Poplar, Mahogany and Cedar for the neck.

  • Very nice and they sure sound good.
  • Pretty much what my build style has evolved to. Leaves lots of room for variations on a theme. Nice sketch Dave..!!
