The necks extend through the inside of the box (cut down to avoid contact w/soundboard), butting into the inside end of the box where they are glued to bracing that spans the width of the tail-end of the box. These tailpieces glue onto the outside of the box, with screws that connect them securely to the neck and the bracing inside the box.
