Spoons for string retainers

Was not happy with the eye hooks previously used to lower the strings on the peg head. - Got this idea on the nation, but can not recall from whom. Be sure there are no sharp edges!

  • I love it when they come in pairs! Love the folksy flavor of the top one.
  • For the f hole, I painted on black craft paint and then a little later, rubbed it off.  Kind of rasped and sanded edges and then took a candle to the fretboard.   On the Whopper I candled a bit and rounded edges.   Looking at it now in the photo, maybe I should have darkened under/inside the sound holes.  May do that yet.  Will try to make a video with the Whopper.  Maybe a short vid and call it a Whopper Jr.
  • thats a whopper and a doozy of some guitars!
  • what was your antique-ing technique?  Coffee grounds and "candling".
  • Thanks, brothers.   They both play well.  The Whopper sounds about a 7 on a 10 point scale.  Need to add more frets (only 5 right now, but mostly I don't use more.)

The f hole lacks volume.  I may put in a couple brass grommets to see if that helps.  I love the beautiful and flashy CBGs, but I may like these 'old' ones more.

  • Nice looking 'vintage' finish. I like the top one with the big f holes.
  • Love the weathered look!  Uncle John you have out done yourself on the one with f holes.  Looks a million years old!
