Oh John do not get me wrong the numbers are very important in building guitars. I went to a luthier school and learned to make fine 6 strings guitars and let me tell you I wished I would have payed better attention in math class. For me I it must feel good to play in the end or I'm just not happy putting it out in the world. I see more with my fingers than my eyes. Lol
John I have always played first 3 fret and get that intonationed then 12th and they alway play like butter. Numbers are only part of it feelings are where the magic happens. Lol

That is true and I have mostly gone by guess and by golly, by trial and by error. But it turns out that the 4mm 'rule' works for my playing style.
Did you see that Beatlejuice vid on setup. He says 4mm at the 3rd fret is the good spot for fingering and sliding. I think he's about right.
