My first piece of serious woodworking kit. A thicknesser (and dust collector) to take the hard work out of prepping timber for necks..and I'm sure it'll get used for lots of other things too. Up 'til now it's been mainly hand tools and hand-held power tools apart from my drillpress and belt sander. I'm still waiting for my planer to arrive, but already managed to thickness a piece of maple for a uke fretboard and trial ran some oak and mahogany neck blanks thru' it.Thanks to JuJu for his advice about what to buy. I didn't realise quite how big and heavy these things are: the whole thing including the stand and extract must be around 50kg! It's noisy too - I use ear protection of course, but the neighbours are going to love me working my way though hundreds and hundreds of board feet of timber over the next few weeks!By the way, UK people, this does mean I will have neck blanks for sale very soon (oak, mahogany and a limited amount of tulipwood (yellow poplar). I'll work out some prices and postage charges and let you know.

Yes..but I have got 150 billets of wood stacked in my front porch ready for reducing to size for necks...and I've only selected about 1/3 of my stack of timber so far..so it's going to earn its keep.
Love it John !!!
i bought one kinda like this before i even start working on my first CBG because i will have to make new stuff in the kitchen :D this summer !!!
i personally love these, make it easyer for me as i was not able to get piece of wood other then pine in 1X2 but there was plenty of choice in the ruff wood department :D so i start from scratch and end with a nice and full 1 inch thickness for my first neck, but the second one will be a little less like 3/4 to make it more comfortable cause i had fingerboard of 1/4 thick so it still remain a full 1 inch when glued together right !!!
i've always looked at what you build and post on youtube and think you have reall good sounding instrument so you are an inspiration for me !!!
thanks for sharing !!!
