  • Thanks for the comments Barry, I'm working on the guitar at the moment. I've drilled the holes for the volume control and the plug. I've glued the neck to the lid and have started putting on the satin clear finish. Once the finger board is dry I'll fit the frets. I think I might have a few pictures that I took during the week of a little more progress, I'll have a look. I'm also working on a case in a matching distressed finish.

  • Nice build going on there John, you must have a lot of patience as I couldn't wait for my first build to finish.

  • good start , like!

  • Obviously, we LIKE.  Now as my dad would say, "Don't screw it up."

  • Gonna be neat-o!

  • I'm sure it will turn out great. You should be much safer with ply anyway!

  • Thanks for advice, I don't want to mess this up.

  • Well after the problems I've been having with danish oil finishes on solid wood (http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/a-cautionary-tale-solid-...)... I'd say yes, go for a plastic finish!

  • Richey, No. The box sides are pine, and the top and bottom are plywood (the guitar is sitting on the plywood sheet I used). I have bashed, cut, and sanded timber and then worked black nugget into the grooves/ wood. I gave it a light sand and then buffed it with cloth. I plan to finish it with a satin clear at this stage, not sure yet?

  • Is the 'weathered' box look done with a wood burner?
