  • For the avoidance of doubt, the whole box is poplar, 3mm (you might say eighth-inch) throughout. Where to get it? I buy all my plywood from a UK company called Kitronic- they supply stuff for modellers and hobbyists (yep, that'd be me), Perspex sheet, little electric motor components, and several gauges of plywood. I started with birch cos that's what Gitty uses, then tried poplar on a whim. Really, really easy to cut- two good scores with a craft knife rather than twenty-two- and a sound that is both mellower and more resonant. And as for sound holes- well, the best pair is yet to come!

    i'd just try Googling 3mm poplar ply and see what comes up. If all else fails, import a bunch from Kitronic, before Trump imposes a 500% tariff on imports of stuff that losers use. Do get some if you can- you'll be pleasantly surprised!
