Roadkill 3 - body and neck now united

Just finished the brackets to fix the top of the box to the neck. Still lots of work to do. Pickup space (just below the neck) is empty at the moment. Shouldn't be by tomorrow. This box doesn't have a catch so I need to decide one something or else the bottom will keep flopping open (or maybe I could use it as some sort of musical effect).

  • Hi Rand.

Thanks for the comment. You win a bit and you loose a bit. It's still nice on the back. I feel more secure about the stability of the neck with a fretboard and it helps to raise it well above the level of the top of the box, which I like.

  • Seems a shame to have to cover such a beautiful neck with a fretboard.

  • Hi Juju. I tried one with a screw and a magnet but it didn't hold well enough. Shame, as I really liked the idea. I may just put a block inside and put a single brass screw from the back. Will have to see how it goes.

Uncle John. Thanks very much. The neck which goes through to the tail is mahogany, the fretboard is ebony. I don't know what wood the heel is as it came from a broken stool.

Hi Whiteowl. Thanks for the comment.

  • Gorgeous, John.  What is the neck and tail piece wood?

  • looking good - as a alternative to using a catch in the past i have used two neo magnets mounted in a wooden block and glue/screw the wooden blocks to the inside of the box - or if the walls on your box are thick enough drill a hole and insert the magnets and glue them in
