Although you could strum or pick the spring, it works exactly as you indicated in your reply. That's true, you could tune the spring but I didn't want to include that level of detail in this build. The actual sound of the spring is very subtle...kind of eerie.
Sorry for the lack of info but thanks for the interest. The spring is set in motion when you strum or pick and the Tele pick up reads that signal. Sort of like when you play your Strat (with a vibrato) and the springs keep resonating. It's subtle but it adds something unusual.
