Question / Progress report

Question: Leave that dry old box as it is ~ or tung oil it inside and out to preserve it and make it less brittle?I like the look of the box just as it is. I am sure it would still look good tung oiled, but not the same.No time to get any further on this build till the weekend. This combination of old and new is not my usual thing. But I am liking it - a lot.

  • Thanks, guys.  It sounds really nice acoustic and plays well now that I have the right strings on it.   Will darken that pickup and headstock bar.

  • Coming great Uncle. She's sweet!
  • Looking good!
  • Nearly done photo is below.   The shellac worked great on the box.

It lacked down pressure on the nut and had string hop.  That oak bar across the headstock took care of that, but I don't like the look too much.   I think I will apply some flame to that bar.  Should make it match up better.

Pickup sounds okay at least.  There is a video of it posted.

  • I guess. Ours would be antiques automatic since we're antiques.
  • Thanks, Gary.

  • Super looking finish, Unk! Like that a ton!
  • I wonder it that was a real antique, Dave or a recent one.   Thanks, Dave.  Got it strung up last night and it sounds good and the pup sounds pretty good.   Having some string hop problems at the nut, but will get at fixing those on my next day off.

  • It looks a lot like some of the historical antique CBGs. One just sold for $375 on ebay. It was a lot like yours.
