Here is the headstock shot from a different angle. The nut I got lucky on and did not need to add a tie-wrap to force the strings down onto the neck, nor did I need any tree arrangement of screws or eye bolts. So the design came out real clean.

I often experiment with different strings before I commit to a particular set, so I prefer not cutting them until I make that commitment so I can use the strings elsewhere. I agree, it looks rather ugly, but it's a temporary situation and is an economic practice.
