Did a little history check on the origins. Turns out that these were used on several continents by ancient tribes for a variety of needs. The Mongols under Genghis Khan would use their bows with one side detached to whirl around gaining the same effect for communication of armies. Now these are used for music & scaring your wife at 2:AM.
