I have a Pete Seeger style long neck banjo. The neck is solid enough but I like very light strings and you only have to touch them and they bend! LOL or perhaps it's just due to the additional length of the strings?
I didn't know there was another way to play! Lol ok so sometimes my pick breaks and I have to bash it through the amp with my finger nails haha. I know what you mean, I have a production banjo that bends notes with the neck like that. My first build was with a yellow pine 1x4 and you could tell lol
I made smalll grooves with a modelling file and superglued them in place!!! Trouble is the grooves were not all dead even so some of the strings buzz where I haven't got even heights! I first used big chunky nails to look a bit funky, but that was one BIG chunky mistake! C'mon, this was my first one! The neck was made with modern soft mahogany so I've had to strengthen it. The other one, with the angled neck I could actually change the pitch by pulling the neck back - like using the arm on an electric guitar! The third one, made from a musical jewelry box, the one with the angled head I gave up and made that one fretless and just bash it through the amp with a flatpick!!!
Well I feel dumb lol! Were the frets glued into slots or right on the surface? My next box will be my first real fret job. I made a cardboard mandolin like a mini Gibson sg that I used flat toothpicks for frets but everything else has been fretless

"K" for Keith! The frets are made from c30 amp copper electrical wire and aren't very good, I'll have to buy some fret wire and replace them
