Grandpa...a few years ago I made a neck from a piece of Lam-beam. It`s basically laminated plywood into a 2x10 construction beam. Looked real nice and was very strong. I have in the past made bodies from stacked plywood also.
Spectraply is awesome. Pricey, but awesome. I haven't been able to pull the trigger on a purchase, but I am impressed with your neck, Randy. I have made some nice necks with plywood, finishes up nice, but nothing like Spectraply.
My bro Darren Brown sent me a small National cone to try out in my next reso build. So I only thought it fitting to make one eye catching neck for it. Now the hard part...what color to paint the box...lol.
yep...dyed birch veneers..called Spectraply...I`ve used it for slide tops and bridges already, this is my first neck made from it. I bought a panel 3/4" x 10" x 35" for $65. That was the cheapest panel. It`s mostly used for high end gun stocks and lathe turned game calls.

Good info. The name should have tipped me off too.
Man that's beautiful! A bit out of my price range for a neck blank but certainly eye catching!

That is beautiful. Is it a lamination of different colored woods?
