  • I agree David Bowes, I knew a few Freckled Patterned Beeches in my younger days :-)  

  • I would say its beech; it normally has that freckled pattern.

  • OK.,,i got real curious and did some investigation.,,.I'm much more familiar with Oaks, and I don't know much about Beech, as you can only get it at the lumber yard around here.,.,but after digging around a bit, I have to agree.,.,"That is Beech wood" .,.,.,now I will know what I'm looking at next time.,., a lot of old piano's around here on the east coast of the USA used Chestnut wood before the blight took it all away.,.,.,cheers.,.,
