And here is a side-by-side photo of my two headless instruments, both three string stick dulcimers with diatonic fretting. The headless Reso-Box was made from much thicker wood in an effort to determine if a stout box with a re-enforced sound board would make the resonator function much better. My results? Not noticeably better in terms of resonator loudness. In fact I found the bigger sound box harder (less comfortable) to hold. I also had a string buzzing problem which I later fixed by using a taller bridge... apparently the down angle of the neck was greater than I had anticipated and the strings over the first two or three frets would often buzz. That's fixed and now it plays pretty well. The resonator pushed the 3 tuners out of the sound box. I like how the smaller instrument turned out, with the tuners mounted inside the sound box. Thar instrument is under 2 feet long. Just wish I had left more room on the end of the neck to make clipping on a digital tuner a bit easier.
