My second "mountain dulcimer" with a 50cm VSL, a 24" x 6" x 2" sound box and a "neck-almost-thru-the box" with an elevated fretboard. Close up of headstock from the top. This head and neck assembly was built up from six slats of cherry trim wood by laminating (gluing) them together one by one, and leaving out the section of wood where the slot of the headstock would be. The cherry trim wood is about 0/5cm thick, so the neck and headstock is about 3cm thick, which works out well, since this same trim wood is 3cm wide, and so is used again (3 more slats) for the elevated fretboard.
