Thanks for getting back...I know the basics about neo, alnico, etc and the general numbering system...just can't find plain ol' cheapo ceramic 5s or 8s bars that are 1.5"-ish long with various widths and thicknesses...have hunted every possible site the world over....and seems my only option is to order custom sizes from a few places...but that defeats my purpose of finding 'cheap' magnets...I think my only go to is the 3/8 x 3/8 by 1.625" I found locally -- should work just fine....just haven't wound them into a new pkup yet...thought it'd be nice to have some a 1/4"t x 1/2"w... etc. just for experimental purposes,,,I'm interested in building only rail pkups and the way I'm building them would make it pretty easy to exchange diff mags on the bottom of the bobbin

Best to do a simple google search for magnet distributors. Regarding bar strength (magnetic pull, so to speak), Alnico magnets are numbered, and I believe the higher the number, the stringer the pull. Neo magnets are stronger, but when using magnets that have very strong energy, they can hinder the string's ability to vibrate, thus effecting the sustain. Ceramic magnets are cool, but very brittle.

Man, I love all your builds -- top notch stuff!!! I just started winding my own pickups -- Please hep me if you can: I've been hunting forever to find a place for a real choice of thicknesses and lengths for smaller bar magnets ...where oh where can I get those like those...I luckily I just found some square bars about 3/8 x 3/8 x 1.625" at a hardware store that should be great for some builds...but sure would love to be able to experiment with different pull strengths (or long ones if I build a 'harp' style somethingerother) -- I've only built one pickup and that was with a 1 7/8" fat fridge mag like the ones in the middle of your stack...it came out sounding really great and special...and when grounded, near zero noise somehow. Anywho, love your stuff and help me if you can! Eric T
