Thanks for all the comments everyone! It was the most fun I've had for ages, and really good to convert the masses! Hippy Chip, I don't know what the secret to selling them is, but I'll tell you this - whenever guitarist friends of mine have picked up a guitar I've built they usually always find fault, like there aren't enough frets, or the action is too high, or (I love this one) "it's not a real guitar though, is it?"
This was at an arts festival where there were about 200 artists and crafts folk, and the reaction there was quite different. A few people were musicians, but most people bought them because they liked how they looked and that they are unique, and a lot of people loved the fact that they were made from recycled stuff. I'd tried to make them using fairly diverse components.
The most common question was "but can you play them too?". "Of course!" I replied.
If I could build faster I'd do more shows just for the sheer enjoyment of it - gotta keep on trying different shows though, there will be one which fits!
Not sure why I couldn't comment, I'm not au fait with this yet! A picture from my exhibit at Saltaire Arts Trail last weekend - I was the only person exhibiting instruments, and they proved very popular with the arts crowd. People couldn't believe that you could bang a tune out of a two string guitar, and many came on recommendation! Sold seven guitars and met lots of lovely people.
