I like the surface mount pickup concept. What I didn’t particularly care for was the look of the naked pickup on the soundboard. The surround I milled out of leftover African mahogany from the soundboard of the last build. Just a “stepped” picture frame melted down a bit with sanding. It hides the unfinished look of the edges of the pickup. The wicked bucker sounds great, and I really like not cutting away the neck for a humbucker.
Forgot to mention, the finished guitar weighs 45 ounces, and balances right at the pickup. I can literally lay it on the palm of my hand at that point, and it balances. No droopy neck syndrome here. Har!
Before someone else spots it, the bridge is temporarily borrowed from another guitar. Once I do a bit of measuring, I intend to make a walnut bridge with a steel pin saddle.
