Hi Kigar, and thanks. To be honest I didn't really notice any difference between the final bridges and the scrap wood ones I used for testing, so I would say that the fretwire doesn't have any effect on tone. I've not really done any proper testing though, they just felt like the way to go at the time.
Thanks Uncle John. The couple had expressed an interest in learning to play the ukulele, and the husband already had some basic guitar (hence the contrauke), so hopefully I've done my bit to spread some homemade music...
Matching pair of ukuleles made as wedding presents for a couple of friends. Both have scratch made mahogany bodies, bolt on maple necks with rosewood fingerboards, maple fretwire bridges and Grover machine heads. #8 Tenor uke, 17" scale, standard tuning with high G. #9 Contrauke, 23" scale, tuned GCEA one octave down from standard using classical guitar strings.

Very nice.
Nice ukes! I have had the uke bug lately too. Do you find adding a fret to the bridge improves the sound?
Excellent. I hope the couple plays them a lot.
Nice pair! Great gift!
