  • "Thanks" Dave, UJ & Pick, the picks 1920's info seems to fit in with written text on the box by one of it's former owners, who was born 1890.

  • It's what I think of as a cigar box. I think 1940s.
  • That is one of the more common old boxes that I see.   Cool too.   I have built with them white side up and white side down.   White down looks more vintage.

  • listed as 1920s here https://www.etsy.com/listing/117308443/vintage-cigar-box-king-edwar...

from  what i   have see  the 6  cents are  usually  listed as  40's  and the 5 cent  20s .

not  sure  if that  helps  or makes things  more  blurry  lol  or is even accurate  .

  • It's amazing to me, that you could find out that much information about it's former owner, just from a little writing in a cigar box. Best of luck with your build.

  • "Thanks Jim", although the box isn't in the best of condition, it does have that aged, but nice look about it, I have just stated to use it in a build, and it is combination of both materials, the top, bottom and ends are cardboard while the sides are wood of an unknown type at the moment, might find out more when I cut the Output Jack hole.

  • "Thanks Preston", 63's not old!, (that's a statement coming from someone who's almost 66).

There is a little bit of written history on the box by a previous owner, which says "Last Will and Testament of William Frank Speed", so being a bit of a Genealogical buff I did do a bit of research, and discovered he was born in Qld Australia in 1890, and later shows up in the Electoral Rolls as a Police Sergeant.

  • Nice box! Is it cardboard or wood?

  • I remember seeing my Grand father having a few of these in his work shop, when I was just a kid. I'm now almost 63. I remember seeing him, along with brother & my great grand father, all sitting in the parlor smoking cigars. My great grand mother would collect the cigar ashes to sprinkle around on the rugs to keep moths away. I guess I'm gettin' old.
