"Fast Back" (Almost complete)

The CBG was painted at my work by a great sign painter (Kenny Marshall, Thanks bud!) a beautiful Metallic deep blue (it looks like a cars metallic paint, its hard to see in the photos). The white "butt stock" (or whatever you wanna call it) was CNC routed and bent around the box to not only hold the strings but to also attach the neck to the box with bolts, washers, and then screwed into Riv-nuts that were epoxied into the neck. The fret board is made of Birdseye Maple. The bridge/pickup is made of straight grain maple (Im making another one out of birdseye maple and it will be a slightly different shape to complement the rest of the CBG). I havent quite decided if im going to do dulcimer style fretting, or fret the whole thing. My intentions were for it to be just a 3 string slide, but the action is quite low (lower than anything else ive made) so if I put all the frets in you would be able to finger pick it.

  • Good luck Brent! Slow and steady and all that jazz ;-)
  • I'm about to start putting frets on, wish me luck!! Lol!!

  • That is a fine and very unique build. You should be very proud of her!

  • Well every time ive made a cbg ive never been quite sure on exactly how long the scale length will be, I usually have a good idea b/c of the neck length but until I get her all together and strung up I never really know because I like to fiddle around with the placement of the bridge for a couple of reasons, the main reason being the way it sounds, and the other, just how comfortable it is while being played. Yeah its a little tricky and it definitely makes me nervous, but ive got a few tricks to keep everything from being messed up by a slip of the fret saw and what have you. But I think I'm with you all on the full fret thing, I believe it will really complete the whole build. Thanks again guys for the complements. I appreciate you all taking a look!!!

  • Great precision in this little gitty!    I'm with Richey on the full fretting idea, but I'm sure either would work!

  • Absolutely stunning build Brent. I love it!

I think the shape of the bridge works well with the rest of the bridge. I would also go for full chromatic frets... but won't that be a bit tricky at this stage? Looks otherwise finished?

Really really well done mate. A+

  • Wow, what a complement! Thanks very much! She's a beauty!!

  • Brilliantly imaginative, flawlessly executed.
