A little background - my Grandpa, who is in his late 80's, has been a carpenter all his life and was pretty chuffed when I took up something wood related as a hobby. This tiny rebate plane was made by his great-grandfather, making it well over 100 years old - what a cool gift!

Cool, Richey. My dad was a carpenter (and railroad man). He left me some of his tools before he died in 1985 and I think of him when I use them. As for the sharpening skills, mine are terrible. Someday I will learn. Maybe.
Thanks John. Fortunately I've invested quite a bit of time learning how to sharpen by eye. The iron slides out pretty eeasily and the blade is straight like a chisel unlike most planes which are curved. They don't make steel like they used to so there's no reason I shouldn't be able to hand this down to my descendants!
Very cool. Double cool with the history. I hope you can actually use it. You know, I would not have the skills to sharpen that. Better get some tips if you don't know how.
