Yes that's more professional but I will go for my approach if I decide to do it at all. Mine's an 8-course so the headstock needs careful planning and measurement.
I would not have thought of that when I made it but it's a brilliant suggestion for me now. Because it's so unstable I never play it. One would have to fill in the two slots in the headstock and veneer over it all. I guess that's you must have done?

You could do that,but I swapped the peg box for a solid piece of maple
Do you get fed up trying to keep the thing in tune ? I did, ended up converting it with uke tuners
