I need to ground the tone pot.

There's a missing wire on the tone pot. Where should i stick it? From the back ground to the ground on the jack? Help.... Things work now but no tone change and a hum when i touch the bare knob post. The bridge is grounded to the jack.

  • I am not a wiring guru by any stretch of the imagination, just an old hacker that sometimes gets lucky when I touch different wires to different things. Once you find out what works go with it man ;-) I have wired stuff exactly the way some diagrams show it and still get a buzz or some other annoying abnormality and just switched some stuff around and then it works. If that doesn't work a good smack with a hammer will do it, if that don't work get a bigger hammer :-) Glad you got it figured out Dave.

  • Hey Uncle, i figured this one out. Now it works great. I changed the cap conections and sent a ground from the back of the volume pot to the tone pot and to the tail piece ground. No buzz and tone works. I used a diagram from Swike's Understanding Wiring. It's the Tele diagrams. The cap now goes from the volume pot to the tone pot. None of my books have just one pickup shown except Music Factory. And that one is for piezos, not mag pups. I need a good book (or a Mad Dog).
  • smoke, sparks and flames are bad signs.   I need to ground my oil can get.  It buzzes.   Maddog told me how to do it.   May try..
