I guess I should stop building guitars...

... otherwise I'll drown in those things soon...

  • Ah - I can relate.  I've built totally using hand tools, and using a pretty complete shop I had access to (for a while).  There's a certain 'zen' you can achieve while building by hand.  In fact, I think neck shaping is best done using an old-timey spokeshave.  Doesn't have to be an antique tool; but even new spokeshaves are old-timey tools of the trade.  Fretting cries for hand tools in my world.  Still, I'll use power sanders, routers, and power saws (jig and band are favorites) from time to time.  Solid bodies cry for planers; but I've got some cool old hand planes and may employ them on a future build....   At the end of the day, it matters more that you're creating awesome roots instruments, NOT how you made them.   It's all good, and there are NO rules!  Well done!

  • Don't worry, Bluesheart and AGP, I was just joking. I know that I won't be able to stop. Considering how bad I am at quitting cigarettes I'm very unlikely to sucessfully battle this addiction. I only started with this whole CBG thing about a year ago but it's gotten to the point where I see a guitar in pretty much every remotely boxlike object I stumble upon... (But I'm talking to a guy who has built way over 300 guitars here!!!)

The only problem is that this is a very time consuming addiction. I don't have any power tools or special luthier gear so making, shaping and fretting a neck takes hours and hours. And because I also have a demanding job and a family I have limited amounts of free time. So it's either building more guitars or having the time to get better at actually playing them... I guess I'll try to build less and play more for a while now...

  • Thanks for all the nice comments on my little collection, guys!

Yes, very tidy, Dave, I grew up in Switzerland , so go figure...

And yes, Uncle John, your eagle eyes don't deceive you: There is still a little room in the corner - and, of course, I could just start another row above this one, or expand to other corners or rooms. But at some point my wife will intervene, I'm afraid... And yes, that's a Seagull. Very, very nice guitar! And considering the quality and that they're handmade in Canada they're actually not even that expensive. This one plays so well, I don't think I'll ever need another six string acoustic!

  • Why Stop ???????  :-D

  • Beautiful tidy collection. No piles or trip hazards. You are good to go.

  • You are just getting warmed up, don't stop now!

  • There is room in the corner.  Nice builds!  Nice factory built too, looks like a Seagull guitar.

  • Great collection! :)

:D you should then build for your friends to save some space in home!
