The sensor (vertical piece with the black wire & red tail end) detects the magnet passing by (magnet is epoxied to the blue plastic wheel, and a piece of copper tape added to secure, in case of the magnet wanting to fly off). The sensor is accurate up to 20 winds per second, and the digital counter has five digit positions. Technically, I could wind a coil up to 99, 999 winds before it returns to zero. But that is just crazy talk.
