  I put the lid on the box, traced around it and then drilled a lot of small holes around the inside of the line. Coping saw to remove the center then about 20 minutes of filing while test fitting and using a pencil to sort out where I need to remove more material. The lid had a lip so you have a little wiggle room and it friction fits right into place.

  Very pretty.  I have done reso builds, but not with a paint can lid.  That cut must need to be precise.
