Going to try building an amp from a Tone Monster kit. 3 watt 9volt and a 4 inch speaker. I got two cases in mail along with the kit today. I love the hatbox style one with the cafe art. I think it's #1.

Well I've made the speaker hole and installed the 4" that came with the kit. I figure I could add another 4 on one side panel if the single is poop. I don't have room for any bigger on this case. The hat box has the big space. I'll look for a nice big 6 for it. I have a different kit coming for it too.
I have used Pyle speakers as well .,,.a 6.5 inch PA driver rated at 400 watts cost me about $16 each.,.,and sound great with low wattage or high wattage .,,.I have heard some car speakers work well.,,.I personally have had bad luck with TV and surround sound speakers .,.,most of my builds were with a LM386 circuit .,.,that tone monster should sound great.,.,
I've stalled for a day to see what you guys would advise. Thanks for the input. I sanded off the funky case to get rid of bubbled up old covering. It looks really funky now. Nice wood case with box joint corners under the faux tweed paper. I'll look for another speaker. Or maybe two :^)
Coolness brewing in Duluth! I do like the Tone Monster I built (MAH-3). I stuffed it inside a Line 6 that had stopped working. Used the Line 6's original 8" speaker - - sounds great and a 9-volt battery lasts a LONG time! (People have been shocked when they hear I'm powering this thing with a single 9V battery!)
We expect great things from you Dave - - no pressure!
Sounds like a great project.,,.I know you want to use that speaker, but I would recommend a 6.5 inch speaker from PartsExpress. Last I checked they were about $12 .,.,much better tone and frequency response than a 4" speaker.,.,and they are spec'd for guitar.,., that hat box is way cool.,.,
