The addition of the two "veneers" on top of a thick headstock made it impossible to add bushings to the tuner holes. While this did not render the guitar unplayable, there were definite issues with keeping the stings in tune...
I guess when laminating the headstock, you need to play close attention to where the hole is located on the side of the posts of your tuning machines. Seems from the photos, you just made the cut. Any shorter and you'd be unable to string them up.
