This project has been going really slowly because I have been a bit busy recently but the tuners and bridge are now mounted. I realised that the screw holes in the neck pocket don't match screw holes in the neck (idiot!!) so i need to drill two new holes in the neck..... then install the tremolo springs, string it up and hope it doesn't all fall apart! The soundhole cover neatly covers a blood stain from a coping saw accident. I also need to buy the actual tremolo arm, and am quite annoyed that they seem to cost at least 8 quid, which seems quite expensive for just a piece of metal.

Hmm my skills and tools are very limited and I wouldn't know how to go about making a whammy bar that would screw in to the socket already in the bridge, nice idea though!
I was going to suggest the same thing, building your own tremolo arm (in keeping with the DIY aesthetic). A tricky proposition, but doable nonetheless. Your design is coming along quite nicely! Can't wait for it's maiden voyage (have a bottle of champaign ready!)...CHEERS!
Cool Fergus, I am interseted in knowning about the mounting of the machine heads. I assume the box will always open to allow restringing? I have had internal bracing issues with a zitherpin arrangement and would be keen to see a pic or drawing of what you are doing here. Keep up the good works mate.
