The kind for plumbing. They were popular back in the day. I've got a Hot Head glass torch that could be fired into a pipe in my vise. Might try it for binding.
The solder iron is a big old heavy duty one that found at a yard sale..not sure what it was used for..no on/off, just plug it in and get with it. big wooden handle and its about 12 inches long and has a big chisel tip on the business end.I think I paid 3 bucks for it and replaced worn out cord.I had this sort of use for it in mind when I bought it and hoped it still worked..it gets really hot.I use the metal shaft( it's about an inch in dia.) between the handle and the tip.
Thanks A P..I have had this gourd for a long time and always wanted to do something nice with it.The top is mahogany from an old piece that I have had about as long as the gourd.I did an x brace under the top that intersects right under where the bridge is..It sounds awesome..a keeper for sure.
Thanks Dave..I thought crop circles would be appropriate. The sound hole inlay is maple and had to be heat bent..my first attempt..I put an old soldering iron in a vise and soaked the maple..only burned my finger once.I think I got off lite.
