I meant to add that the slots required a fair bit of cleaning up as the original shaping was quite rough. Also added some maple dowl to fill the redundant tuner holes.
The pearl head stock overlay/veneer finished filed to final shape. Tricky to do as I had to allow for the flat area just in front of the nut, so I carefully scored a line across the back and gently 'over bent' this area to an angle so that when clamped it would sit flat as required. I used 'JB Weld' two part epoxy to bond it to the head stock face and had to be careful it didn't move as I had to allow space for the nut and keep that edge square to the fret board end.
