The mock up confirmed that I'd need to 'move' the sound hole down a little as well as making it smaller so the stainless steel sink drainer would fit better. I drew up two circles on a common centre line which gave me a paper pattern to cut out, then stuck it to the left over scrap of ply cut out for the sound hole/resonator. The big advantage here was it being exactly the same thickness as the top of course so it would be a perfect fit and easy to level with the surrounding area. I had enough material left to make three more pieces to act as 'ledges' to glue it to. The final shape of the piece ended up as a kind of 'half moon' as the bottom area would have been so thin I decided to omit it.....there was more than enough area for the sink drainer 'flange'.
