Dixie Queen - in progress

Just painted the black parts. Will poly it later and hope to string it up tomorrow. This tin sat in the shop for months. Cool tin and a bit of a shame to cut into it.And until two days ago, I could not figure out a good way to use it. The side facing the camera is the top, but it is raised and not well suited to be the guitar top.

  • Thanks, Pat, Vinnie and Duck.  And LOL, Duck.   I strung it up this afternoon.   Needs some tweaking.   To be continued.

  • Love the old tins and boxes Uncle John. I'm thinking CBG builders are like hotrodders. Anybody can preserve one, but it takes a real man to cut one up.

  • NICE BOX....I have a box that is circa 1920 ,just to scared to use it with my present skill level.should be a cool build UJ.

  • Nice tin John!!! Gonna make a good lookin' git too!

I am torn sometimes between keeping antiques or making guitars out of antiques, I figure an antique is fun to set on the shelf and look at but an antique git is something that will give years of pure enjoyment. I get people that tell me "oh you shouldn't of cut into that" and I tell them "then YOU should'a bought it, this ones mine"  :-)

  • You SOBs!!!  Stay the clock away from my Dixie Queen.

Clock, does that mean you like?   And it would be fun to have you guys in the den.  But you gots to go outside for your seegars.  I will join you.

  • Thanks, JP.  But do you think the dumbbell saddle will make the strings too high and affect intonation?

Yeah on the plug of Dixie Queen.  I think about some depression era dude in overalls making a big expenditure to buy a tin that big.  Rolling your own or putting it in a pipe - that would last a while.   You know, I think if today's smokers had to roll their own, they and the world would be better off.
