  • Dianne I totally missed this so sorry :)
High string is a major third, but but is offset as you can see, if it were inline it'd be a minor third. That's we're the magic is ;) x
Dewys had this a while now, he's got it nearly banjofied far as I know
  • Well, that other thread got me all hot and bothered about dulcimers again. So what is the tuning on this kind of fret pattern?  I see the top 3 strings are 1 5 1, yes?  But that high string?

  • pretty cool , had to come and take another look at it -----------lol    cant wait to try it

  • seriously, its quite complex as you guessed but essentially it transposes all the correct chords for the scale very easily, it was originally designed as a composition and education tool but it later became apparent it was of some use to the disabled among other groups.. I do have a patent on this fretting layout (and all its modes) so you need a licence if you wanna make em in numbers, but anyone is of course free to make their own for non commercial ends. I'll also happily make people a neck like this in a swap or for some dollars.. I'd prefer to post people necks than finished axes if youre not in Australia cos i can post a neck in a tube and it works out a lot cheaper for me
  • thanks guys..

Rob the frets are the little metal jiggers you bang into the wood to make the notes on :D

this is just cos i was running low on em..
this pic is my next one, might make it about clear as mud for ya..

seriously tho, its just a strumstick mate, just with a different tuning so the fretting is a little more complex..
  • It looks awesome. Would you mind explaining the frets?

  • Another beautiful bit of work from the man with the crazy frets. That does look great and it will certainly turn heads.
