The neck is an oak and ipe sandwich. The ipe is a real pain to work with, but I had some scraps left over from a decking project and it's makes a nice contrast with the oak. This is my first laminated neck and I definitely think the result is worth the effort.

Ipe is a Brazillian hardwood similar to walnut in color (to my eye anyway) and hard as nails. When I used it as decking boards I had to pre-drill and counter sink every screw hole and lubricate the screws or they would snap off going in. Supposedly this wood is common in Brazil that they build docks and stuff out of it that can last 50 or more years in direct salt-water contact without any chemical treatment. Naturally insect resistant too. Very tough stuff.
