  • I think your cutouts for bowing is a good solution. Maybe some half moons coming in from the sides could narrow the opening a little. Of course you could make a tapered box too. Your neck is beautiful!

  • I use an old sock in the back of my banjo. I'll try some foam and see what happens. One other good thing about this design is you can just reach in with two fingers to position the sound post!

  • well i really like the look of them at any rate. you could try putting a block of wood or even foam in the sound box, not enough to fill it, just soak up a little of the echo. I had a similar issue with the bow rubbing when i did a fiddle, but my box was a lot thinner, so all i needed to do was shape out the edges of the box.

  • The sound holes were an experiment to give the bow clearance while playing the two outer strings. The tone seems to be affected by the larger size of the openings - a little hollow and boxy but I'm getting used to the sound of it and when someone else plays it the boxiness is less apparent than when it's under me cheek. I may do a few photos next neck I carve. it's mostly drawknife, cabinet scraper and rasp work after it's roughed out with power tools.

  • these fiddles are great. I love this one particularly. the sound holes are amazing. How does it play with the cedar body?

  • Yes, sir, Very nicely done.

  • Would love to see how you carve the neck.  Beautiful!

  • Very beautiful. Fabulous! The Purple Heart neck is wild. The Devil's fiddle.
