  • Hi Bluesheart, Yes, all things considered the overall quality and build is remarkably good, as is the sound. The body is made of 1/8" thick greyboard with a printed sticker/paper covering to give the wooden cb effect, and the f-holes are very neatly stamped out of the top. Your current project sounds really interesting....hope to see some pics of that, and I'm sure it'll turn out looking just fine! Good luck with your build!!

  • Sure is a pretty thing, esp with those nice corners. Gives me hope as I just started a build out of a cereal box, but I'm sure it will not be a pretty as this .

  • Doh...! Sorry Gary, I forgot to add the link to the corner protectors I mentioned in my previous post.....must be an age thang...!!

    Here it is; https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019GT9X2G/ref=oh_aui_detailpag...

  • Thanks Gary...and here you go, this is the badger....!

This is a link for Amazon UK, but it'll get you started.....https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1743677588/ref=oh_aui_detailpag... Take care with the pricing though....I've seen these anything up to three times the price I paid, which I thought was terrific value. It includes a fantastic little book with a little bit of history, well structured basic excercise for beginners (I didn't get much from it and I doubt you would either, but for beginners it is a truly superb teaching resource) and a cracking CD with an excellent demo track, tuning notes, all the exercises in the book, and some great quality backing tracks, strings and an acrylic slide! Bargain!!

Here's another one, this time for the demo on YouTube.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KMLstmDdmw

Finally...here's a link for the chrome corner protectors I fitted to it today....to protect the cardboard.....!!!!! By the way, the wood is a decent peice of timber, and all the hardware, although basic, is well up to the job.....even the tuners are good.

As long as you pay around $30 (or less!) you simply cannot go wrong.....

    Hope this helps,

    Brian.

  • Brian - I'm sure there are no restrictions for posting legitimate links, even for newbies!  I'll send a friend request your way, too.  I think I DID see these on Amazon or Ebay recently, I also understand that our national ALDI's chain of groceries has had these in the past.  I've not seen them 'live' in our store.  The fact that I've made 35 different CBGs., diddley bows and canjos over the past couple years could probably preclude my NEED to own one of these, but they're just so darned tempting!

  • Hi Gary,

Your good lady is right there...and it's HIGHLY addicitive too....!!! Ha!!!

I got mine on Amazon (£22.45 GBP new, delivered) and I'd be very happy to post a couple of links with further info for you, but I don't know if that's allowed as I'm a complete newbie to this wonderful site. Any idea on that one Gary...? If you let me know i'll get right back to you, with pleasure.

  • Brian - I've not seen one of these, but would buy it if I did!  I think ChickenBone John did a review of these a while back.  Not a bad way to start.  Kind of like canjos - I was talking to a friend about them the other day, saying they were a really good way to get started in the CBG world.  My wife commented, "Oh!  Sort of a gateway drug!"  ;-)

  • Hi Uncle John, and thank you for your kind words. A simple thing to do but I think the corners finish it off nicely, as well as adding some useful protection to the....cardboard....!!

  • You did some nice improvements.

  • Hi Jerry,

LOL is right....!! The cardboard IS real...ha!! It's got me started though, and hooked, and you can't put a price on that.....
