Big Box Bass body

In the works, a washtub style Bass made of wood instead of the traditional metal tub. It’s about 18 inches by 14. WhitePine sides with a 1/8 inch Birch Plywood soundboard.

  • Yup, I think I need some bracing under the plywood top. Maybe X bracing? I’ll use guitar spruce braces. My string attachment will be centered on the box top so the braces will need to be off center. Thanks for the tips fellas.
  • More akin to the Tea Chest Bass, but that’s definitely gonna be kool!

  • I did the soundboard that way on my bass viola da gamba. Worked great. I did use a capital "I" shaped brace which was what one old set of plans showed. The column of the "I" brace wasn't centered. It was on the other side compared to the soundpost.
