they just change the sound a little ju ju and make the box a little louder but mostly i put them there to be able to hold the d-bow cause it is only 2 in. wide. i attached the tubes at the top and bottom with removeable screws.i can cap off the tubes or leave them open. changes the sound acousticly if they are capped off.
