AGP #423 - ''FJ Uke''

AGP #423 “FJ Uke”4 String Fretted Hubcap Tenor UkuleleScale:432mm/17incheStrings: .022NW/.036NW/.028NW/.020NW/Tuned: G C E AAnother purloined idea for a build, this time from another Aussie, Nigel McTrustry. The Stainless Steel Hubcap is from an Australian Built FJ Holden (1953- 1956), a 53 Model being my first Car, back in 1966.The Neck is Cypress Pine, coated with “Gilly Stephenson’s Clear Restoring & New Timber Polish”, the Nut is Asian Water Buffalo Bone, the String Ferrules are Aluminium Rivet Heads, and a 4.3k Delta Type Single Coil Pickup is Hardwired to the Output Jack.Still a few tweaks to be done with this build, lower the action at the Nut, add a Back to it, to dampen a bit of the Tinny sound, and most importantly, “Learn How to Play a Ukulele” :-D

  • "Thanks A.D.", Seasick Steve has a couple of builds with 2 Hubcaps, but many builders use Pie Plates or something similar as a back/bottom, this is the 15th Hubcap build I've done to date, 9 have no backs, and 6 have Timber Backs, I still have plenty of Hubcaps waiting to be used in the shed, so I might whip up a 2 Hubcap Build very soon.  :-)
