AGP #423 - ''FJ Uke''

AGP #423 “FJ Uke”4 String Fretted Hubcap Tenor UkuleleScale:432mm/17incheStrings: .022NW/.036NW/.028NW/.020NW/Tuned: G C E AAnother purloined idea for a build, this time from another Aussie, Nigel McTrustry. The Stainless Steel Hubcap is from an Australian Built FJ Holden (1953- 1956), a 53 Model being my first Car, back in 1966.The Neck is Cypress Pine, coated with “Gilly Stephenson’s Clear Restoring & New Timber Polish”, the Nut is Asian Water Buffalo Bone, the String Ferrules are Aluminium Rivet Heads, and a 4.3k Delta Type Single Coil Pickup is Hardwired to the Output Jack.Still a few tweaks to be done with this build, lower the action at the Nut, add a Back to it, to dampen a bit of the Tinny sound, and most importantly, “Learn How to Play a Ukulele” :-D

  • "Thanks Doug", This is obviously a very nice restoration of an 1953- 56 FJ Holden Sedan :-)

  • It’s got that classic car feel to it that puts a smile on my face! Not much chrome on cars these days, but it sure looks nice on a ukulele and will be easier to keep clean! Awesome build AGP! It will be well worth learning how to play it.

  • "Thanks James O", There's always something nice about a "Shiny Build"  ;-)

  • "Thanks UJ", both for the generous comments on the Build, and the Birthday Wishes, In the past I have downloaded a heap of how to play Uke Tutorials etc., but it's more of a matter of me putting in the time and effort to learn how to play the now, 7 assorted Ukulele/Banjolele Builds I've done, and still have in my possession , along with a very nice Store Bought Cutaway "Tanglewood " Tenor Uke, but I keep getting that never ending urge to go out to the shed, and start another Build, a major part of my life, that no amount of "Build Stop" will ever cure!  ;-D

  • Very creative looks good AGP# nice build

  • I like the heck out of that, Alan. Cooler yet that the hubcab came from a car like or similar to your first car. Uke is pretty in the key of C. Check out some how to play uke youtube and how to uke blues. Lots of fun. Best wishes to the birthday boy.
