AGP #293 - ''5 Buck Jerry''

AGP #293 - “5 Buck Jerry”(3 String Jerry Can Guitar)Scale : 685.8mm / 27 inchesStrings : .036NW / .022NW / .017NW /Tuning: A / E / a /As the name suggests the 10 litre Jerry Can was a $5 purchase from the local Rubbish Dump Recycling Shop, a cheap ($3.41 AU) 4k Ebay Bass Type Pickup is hardwired to the Jack, the Neck is Tasmanian Oak, stained with green food colouring and coated with Hide Glue and Cream Paint to achieve a Crackle finish, it was an attempt to match the can, but!, too much green leached through, so it is what it is!, the Fretboard is some sort of unknown (to me) Hardwood which was also a Dumpster find, and the Machine Heads are 3 of my still large supply of Piano Tuner Pins.

  • Thanks for the comments Jim, as stated previously, I've never looked at them as Art, But!!, if Unc and yourself say they're Art, then I'll respect your learned opinions and happily call them "ART" :-)

  • Hi octane! I agree with Unc that your stuff is truly art. My favorite thing to do with instruments is donate to charity auctions for a cause I believe in. Hospice always gets at least one instrument a year as do several local food bank auctions. They almost always go for more than I'd sell them for and help to do some good.

  • Thanks for the kind comments about them being True Art 'UJ', not sure about that, but I do regard them as I do my kids & grandkids etc: in that I could never part with them unless they went to good home :-)

  • From my experience, AGP.  It is better to keep or gift than to sell.  Many of yours are true art.  If they go, they should go where they will be appreciated.

  • "Thanks Uncle John", I too hope I'm around for a long time, as yet I have never sold any of my builds, BUT!, if anyone ever offers me an outrageous amount of money for one my Git's before I shuffle, "Well" !!! maybe I'd think about it ;-) and yes it does have a big sound, as does another Jerry Can build I did a while back AGP# 232, and I still have 2 similar 10 litre Army Type Jerry Cans in the shed earmarked for a couple of future builds :-D :-D

  • "Thanks wes carl", Yep!, gas can be a problem at times in my Work Shed :-D

  • I hope you are around a good long time.  But, I can vividly imagine people going crazy and clamoring for your guitars and paying outrageous money for them after the artist dies.

  • Yup.  I am with E and Wes.   Pretty big sound?

    I like the headstock.

  • Yep Erasmo, when I first finished it and took it to the house, I automatically grabbed the middle handle :-)
