AGP #228 - ''Red Liar'' (Shetland Gue Modification)

Have taken an interest in Lyres lately, have a new Build nearly finished on the Bench, but also decided to convert an old build I done back in early March 2014, to a 5 String Lyre, it was built originally as a “Shetland Gue”, a 2 String Bowed Nordic type Instrument, with Piezo Disc Pickup, however it was a complete Dud!, and I couldn’t even get a Scalded Cat type sound out of the bloody thing. In its new life it is now a 5 String Lyre/Harp, still has the original Body of Spruce Pine & 3mm Pine Plywood, but now stained Red & coated with Acrylic Gloss.A 7k Single Coil Bass Pickup is hardwired to the Jack. The Two Scale Lengths are: 16” and 17”The Strings Low to High are: .021NW/.018PS/.016PS/.013PS/.013PS/The Tuning Low to High is: D E G A BSounds Nice Acoustically, but even better plugged into an Amp with your preferred settings.PS: Some of the pics show it as AGP #288, must have been one of those so called Seniors Moments! ;-D

  • Did check it out BQ, but I think I'll stay away from the Bowed Instruments, but I have thoughts running through my mind about doing something like a 5 String CBG Type Build, Tuned D E G A B, not sure if it will work or not, might have to a bit of research into that idea! :-D

  • Yea, the 3rd string served as a drone? Had Viola strings on it, so it sounded spooky, friend of mine had the idea & the parts, so I built it for him?

  • Thanks for looking and commenting Brian Q, never heard of a 3 String Tagelharpa, sounds interesting, and will definitely be investigating that one! :-)

  • "Thanks Rev. & UJ", this one was an old converted Build, done at the same time as I was building a longer scale new one, which I will post  later today. :-)

  • Beautiful!

  • I built a 3 string Tagelharpa before I built a Lyre, I kinda like the hulkish size of the Tagelharpa!

  • Sweet!
