AGP #213 - ''Recycled Experiment''

AGP #213 - “Recycled Experiment”(3 String Fretted Guitar)Scale : 635mm / 25 inchesStrings : .042NW / .032NW / .024NW /Tuning: GDg/AEaOriginally started this build as an experiment for my first attempt at dovetailing a box, and after seeing a recent “Uncle John” build using a piece of 2x4 for a one piece neck, I also decided to experiment with that idea as well, I’m sure the dovetails will improve, and will definitely use them more often, the one piece neck was a lengthy, but interesting and rewarding experience. The box sides are recycled (Spruce?) Pine , the box bottom is recycled Cedar off cuts from my previous build, the top soundboard is recycled Hardwood ply, and the neck is a (very hard) unknown Hardwood. All the timber was coated with a mixture of Linseed Oil & Turps.Originally I was not going to burn this one, but Pyromania got the better of me!, so lightly singed the Headstock, and the area around the Sound Holes and Pup etc, wasn’t happy with look of the Sound Board, so decided to give it some more flame, an “interesting experience” since it had not long been coated with Linseed Oil & Turps!!!The Nut was cut from a piece of Beef Shinbone, the Bridge is an Ebony Piano Key, and the Tailpiece was cut from a Baked Bean Can.The Pickup is an Ebay 7.44k Schecter, (with a few wiring problems).Have a bit of tweaking yet do on this one, the sound at present has a lot of treble, (too much), don’ t know if it’s the Pup, the fact that there is a bit of a bow in the top under the bridge, (soon to be fixed with a sound post) or it may need heavier gauge strings, (the process of elimination will apply)

  • "Thanks"  Dave Lynas, well described!

  • Shabby chic! A beauty...
  • Thanks Uncle John, have since put a piece of Cedar between the underside of the Soundboard below the Bridge and the Neck, and it did make a quite a bit of difference in negating a lot of the treble problem, I'm pretty sure the Pup is fine, but will try a set of slightly heavier gauge strings.

  • Looks great, Alan.  Good luck on the tweaks.

  • Thanks pick, off to the shed to see if I can iron out a few problems with it!
