AGP #172 - ''The Vase 2'' (1)

AGP #172 “The Vase 2’’(AGP #47 - Wood Copy)(3 String Cigar Box Guitar)Scale : 635mm / 25inchesStrings : .042NW / .032NW / .024NW /Tuning : GDGAGP #47 - ''The Vase'' is one of my best sounding CBG's, I toyed with the idea of converting it from 4 strings to 3 strings (which I prefer), but instead decided to try and emulate it using a timber body as the Aluminium Vase used on #47 was a one off find, the final result was a more mellow sound which I'm more than happy with. The body is what I think! is Poplar? top & bottom, and Maple? sides, sourced from a supply of timber from my recycled $29 Piano, the neck is (again I think!) Spotted Gum? recycled from a building site, the bridge plate is home made from Aluminium Angle fitted with Fender type Tele bridge saddles.

  • Thanks Jim, a bit of overkill on the nuts used to join the neck to the box, (it was what I had available at the time), your right!, one could hide stuff in the open end, if I trimmed off the excess length of the nuts, I could probably hide a hip flask of Bourbon, Scotch or Rum in there.

Thanks "Uncle John' yes!, the Aluminium #47 is one my favourite sounding builds, particularly on the "dirty & distorted" amp settings, it has a little bit of a metallic ring to it despite the fact the cast aluminium is 5mm thick. While the open topped wood build also sounds great on these settings, it has a more mellow sound than the aluminium build, and seems to suit the cleaner settings better, I guess what I'm trying to say is "I Like Both Builds".

  • LOL, Jim.   I like them too..  The aluminum one is one of your best sounding builds?  How is the open topped wood build?

  • Nice! I like that open body. I could hide stuff in there! That neck certainly isn't going anywhere.
