I like what you were going for here. A smaller box with a thin or back (turned around) would do for a mando with such a short scale length. Another option for a thick lid is to go electric, 1/2 a P Bass pup (bridge)can be used here. If you can, you may want to bring the neck into the box a bit, to make it more comfortable to play. I think this will be cool when you finish.
Regarding the 4 string mando: Fooled by good looks. The Perdomo box is cool, but way too thick. Acoustic sound is poor.
Also some design flaws on my part. When I find the right box, I will strip this baby down and re-do her. I have a couple of ammo boxes coming from ebay and if they pass the thump test, I may use them.
