3 new RKs on the bench

As some of you may know, I'm going to be moving house soon. A couple of weeks ago I said to myself I wasn't going to build any more until after we've settled in...How did this happen? L-R: 3 string to go in a local music shop, 4 string for me, and a little 4 string mando, which is my first attempt at a fretboard taper with hand tools. Should keep me busy :)

  • Thanks Richey. I think I'll take a page from your book.
  • To answer your question Cameron; sometimes... For the 3 string and the mando I will screw the end of the neck to the box through the back, but the tailpiece will attach to the box. I usually glue in some corner pieces inside the box and screw them down for stability of the soundboard. For the 4 string I will use a block which I will glue in once I have worked out back angle etc. I'm also going to add some bracing underneath the Montecristo lid, as this will be a pure electric build, as I want sustain above acoustic volume.

  • Do you put a block on the tail of your neck stock to support the strings?

  • It's a sickness. A wonderful, glorious sickness

  • Thanks John. Think I'm getting the hang of this.. managed to rough out the one on the left in under 30 minutes!
  • Looking good.  Love those necks and fret boards.

  • Go for it Matt! One caveat though: the lids are very thick, so not great for acoustic builds. They sustain well so they're good with a mag pup.

I've been playing for 15 years, on and off, but mostly off :-)
  • Mmmm... I've got the same Montecristo box sat in my workshop just waiting to be brought back to life. Think I might be making a start soon!

I listened to a few of your videos last night  - your guitar playing is mint. I can't imagine ever being half as good. Have you been playing guitar long?
